Connecting Generations in the Digital World

Chapter 4 Romania once again supported the Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation and the Vodafone Foundation in the second edition of the Connecting Generations in the Digital World program. The initiative offers free digital training for people aged 65 and over, aiming to reach 1,000 participants in Bucharest and 15 other communities. In the workshops, participants learn practical skills such as using smartphones, browsing the internet safely, shopping online, and staying in touch with family and friends.

The program addresses a persistent gap in digital literacy among older adults. According to Eurostat (2024), only 34% of men and 25% of women aged 65 to 74 in the EU have basic digital skills. In Romania, national data shows that two out of ten people over the age of 55 have never used the internet. The initiative aims to reduce digital exclusion and help older people gain confidence and independence in using digital technologies.

Through this initiative, Chapter 4 Romania is helping older adults access the digital world more easily. The team supported the campaign with targeted media outreach, ensuring national visibility – including coverage by Romania’s public radio and the country’s largest online publication, Adevărul. These efforts helped raise awareness of the program and encouraged participation among seniors and their families.
